more edisto

This boy didn't go to school today because he insisted on being here when the ladies who cleaned our house were here... he can't stand the idea of something going on without his presence...

hmmm...I wonder where he got that from...

Edisto

I am sorry to say that I haven't even begun editing the pictures from our wonderful beach vacation this summer! I just started looking through them and am filled with nostalgia! We really did have a good time, even if we stayed in a crappy place!

His turn...

Sunday night - after sleeping all day he's ready to eat, color, do a little fancy handwork, and then hit the hay! Seems my sweet boy has caught whatever was ailing Lou. The good news is that it lasts abut 24 hours and then they're rip roaring ready to go!

Splurge

I just splurged & bought a fab-u-freakin-lous new lens! It totally rocks! I can practically take pictures in the dark now! It's gonna up my photography ante... and who better to practice on than my precious Lou? Really, she's sick Lou in this picture. She came home from school with a mysterious fever & has been under the weather ever since... Although, you can't tell from this picture - this shows you what a little tylenol will do for ya!

brilliance

I love this picture - only a mother could love this picture... Yesterday, during the Happy Birthday singing part, my boy was so overcome by emotion that he wrapped his arm around is sister, gave her a big hug and a big kiss. I love that he's still not concerned about showing his emotions, at least the sweet emotions...

true story...
The cat bit Lou today...happens all the time
He bit her pretty good and it was bleeding...
Which brought up the subject of blood -here's my brilliant son's take on blood...
"blood is this gushy stuff in your body (pinching and poking arm & leg) and sometimes your skin gets a hole in it & blood comes out."

Lou's birthday...

Today is my baby's 3rd birthday & I've decided to do an all day post - letting you in on the birthday festivities here at our house. We have a jam-packed birthday planned...let's get started!

7:50am - we all got up so that we could open Lou's birthday presents from us & I think she really likes it! It's an awesome doll house, she's playing with it right now! (pictures to follow). We're about to eat some oakeymeal (oatmeal) and then we're off to Montessori where we'll have another party.
2:00pm - well, we're home from school & have finished lunch. I wanted to share this picture of Lou at her Montessori birthday celebration. One of their traditions is to hold the earth, walk around a candle, "the sun", the number of years you are...which is the number of times the earth has circled the sun since you were born ! We also shared popcorn with our friends and sang super cute songs!

For lunch we had our favorite...cheese dip! Now everyone is in the yard cleaning up for tonight's party! I'm slaving away in the kitchen working on Lou's birthday treats...watch for the next update!

3:23pm - I've just finished my masterpiece...these cute little puppy pops! I wish I could take credit for them, but I can't. But, I'm also not showing you the link where I found them because you would then compare & judge... so just relish in their cuteness...

I have a zillion other things to be doing, but I promised I'd keep y'all updated.

4:30 as if I have time for another distraction this is how Lou presents herself to me...covered in lotion - how many times will it take before I realize that when they're quiet they're doing something naughty!

Gotta run, the guests will be here soon - check back later for more party news!

9:47pm - well the party was a success! I think everyone had fun & the puppy pops were a hit, or at least my friends were kind! Thanks to everyone that helped make Lou's 3rd birthday so special! She truly had a wonderful day!

Like herdin' cats...

tent city

Not only did I see a giant grasshopper the other day but I also came across this giant mushroom! It was so big I think a family affected by this economic crisis could live under it...

Yes, we can!

This giant bugger landed on my car yesterday while I was out taking pictures...it was HUGE!

That boy...

Today I tried to implement the “if you’re good every day until Friday” reward system with my boy. The plan was this… we keep a calendar every day this week and if at the end of the day he is good he gets a check for the day and if not he gets an X. If, by Friday, he has sufficient amounts of checks he will receive a trip to Walgreens to purchase a squirter (His idea not mine).
Fast forward to right after dinner. I’ve just given him his last warning of the X on today's calendar and, God and my husband as my witness, this is what he said…

He looks at me dead on, dead serious…

“Mom, hold up – before you make that decision why don’t you give me a little more time & see how I act. If at the end of this time you still think I deserve an x – (shrugs shoulders) then you’ll give me one…”

As you can imagine the husband & I could barely keep it together…he’s four freakin’ years old! We’re screwed – royally!

Chicago

I just returned home from a long weekend in Chicago. This was my view from the Westin on Michigan Avenue...viva la priceline.com... I participated in a wonderful photography workshop, spent a couple of days with a good friend, ate lots of good food and contributed to local commerce!

It's good to be back home...

mixed emotions

I am leaving tomorrow for four, count 'em, four days in Chicago! I have never been four, count 'em, four days away from my babies...part of me is beside myself with joy & excitement...and part is sad and melancholic...I'm sure that will pass...

Happy Birthday!

Saturday night we had a wonderful birthday dinner with friends at a wonderful farmhouse. It was so nice to have adult conversations. We enjoyed good food, good wine, and good friends!
