~ Magic Elixir ~
Last week I had a sick girl on my hands...high fever & just all around feeling like $#!T!! As you can probably guess I'm not one to pass up the opportunity to photograph my children (sick or not). Without further ado I give you what I like to refer to as "the Magic Elixir."
This one really breaks my Momma heart!
Getting a little annoyed with her Mom!
Proof! She is sick!

the darndest things...
He says the funniest things. The other day we were walking home from school and in his very matter-of-fact voice he asks me "do you know what happens to you if you hang upside down on the monkey bars too long?' Of course I'm intrigued to hear his answer so I reply "nope!"
"Well, if you hang upside down too long then all of your blood will rush to your head and and cause you to think too much, about everything you know, and your head will explode!!

The Very Quiet Cricket
One of my favorite children's story is Eric Carle's "The Very Quiet Cricket". I loved the part where the cricket sees a Luna Moth quietly sailing in the night sky.

Something weird happened here at our house this weekend...my wonderful husband, father of my children, cleaned the house on Saturday while I was out photographing a wedding. Here it is Monday morning & the house is still clean...still clean...ok, I need to make our bed, but still...the house is clean...
On another note, my precious, beautiful, loving children are visiting their grandparents for the weekend & should be home shortly.
I wonder what my Mom's house looks like...

Chicken Visitor
We had some very special visitors this weekend...Aunt Jamie & Parker came to see us & our chicks! At first Parker wasn't too sure of what to think of these chicks, but he quickly warmed up to them.
Who knew that owning chicks would be like a vegetarian mission for us...Turns out that Aunt Jamie skipped the chicken lunch today after spending the weekend with 9 of them. Sorry we don't have cows too!

New home
We've recently moved our chicks from the brooder into a larger pen. They looked so big in the brooder, but now that they have more space, they still look like little babies. I took these pictures to compare to the image I will take in a few weeks...to show how big they are going to look in that kennel very, very soon.

Breakfast
The other day, a friend on Facebook posted a picture of her delicious breakfast - Eggs Benedict. As I am prone to do, I made a funny/sarcastic remark about how she was making us "all" look bad by making her family a warm, yummy, attractive breakfast on a Wednesday morning, before school, no less. I've thought about that Eggs Benedict a lot the past couple of days...about how much Gina loves her family and shows it in simple ways - like preparing a beautiful breakfast.
This morning (albeit a slow, Saturday morning) I decided I was going to show
my family some of my love for them. I basically made the same
thing I would have made them any other mornings, croissants, bagels,
yogurt, but instead of tossing it on the table in front of them I served
it up on our finest china.
What a difference presentation makes! You would not believe how much we all enjoyed this breakfast! I told the kids that they could have whatever they wanted - that included the chocolate croissants. It was so nice to sit down and leisurely eat and enjoy each others company on this glorious Saturday morning!
Life really is about the presentation isn't it?

Not chickens...
We have big plans for our garden this year! My hubby has been working hard getting the garden ready for spring planting. We've already planted some onions, garlic, kohlrabi, lettuce, sweet peas, cauliflower, chard and spinach.
We have big shoes to fill...the folks who owned this house before us had a LARGE garden. The 1st week we were here, people would stop us in the street and say stuff like "oh, we enjoyed watching their garden grow, we hope you'll continue the garden." Can you say "PRESSURE!" Now if we fail, we not only let ourselves down, but apparently the whole neighborhood too!! Geez!

The Rest
I know it's hard to believe...another post about chickens...get use to it!
Let me introduce - Rosemary, a Plymouth Bard Rock. She is super sweet and gentle.
Cinnamon - a Golden Laced Wyandotte - she will be beautiful when she grows up!
This is Myra - an Ameracauna, she will lay our blue eggs!
And last but not least, Marjoram, or Margie. Margie is Myra's sister and also an Ameracauna.

Chicks
Time to officially introduce our 1st three girls...
Starting with - Pepper who is a Black Sex Link...I know, like they couldn't have come up with a better name for such a cute chick?
Then there is Nutmeg, who is a Wellsummer chick - she is suppose to lay beautiful, dark brown eggs.
This is Sassafras - we've been calling her Sassy, which seems to fit her personality. Sassy is a Silver Laced Wyandotte
I'm sure you can tell we are all totally smitten! Three blog posts in a row all about chickens. Don't worry though, I'll have another blog post for you tomorrow about the 4 other girls we added to our flock today!!
